Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA US) has signed a memorandum of understanding with self-driving technology firm Aurora for a partnership to develop and deploy autonomous commercial vehicles. The proposed partnership would see FCA and Aurora integrate the Aurora Driver self-driving platform, which comprises hardware, software and data services, into FCA commercial vehicle lines.
Carmaker Volvo Cars and ridehailing firm Uber have unveiled a jointly developed production car capable of full self-driving. The partners entered an agreement in 2016 for Volvo to deliver tens of thousands of autonomous drive-ready base cars to Uber in coming years, allowing Uber to install its own self-driving system ready for future deployment in the company's ridesharing network.
Self-driving technology company Argo AI this week launched its third-generation self-driving test vehicle in Detroit. The new vehicles feature technology that the company said brings them a step closer to production specification, with an upgraded sensor suite and a new computing system with much greater processing power than its previous vehicles.
Self-driving shuttle developer EasyMile has announced the launch of a new driverless shuttle that it says is the first worldwide to be ready for operations without an onboard attendant. The shuttle can be monitored from a remote control centre through a real-time data stream, allowing a supervisor to communicate directly with passengers.
