Argo AI has announced plans to partner with Carnegie Mellon University to form an autonomous vehicle research centre, pledging $15 million to support the initiative. The Carnegie Mellon University Argo AI Center for Autonomous Vehicle Research will seek to "push the envelope" on the next generation of self-driving technology, said the company, which believes that the full societal benefits of self-driving technology will not be achieved until advancements are made at scale.
The UK Space Agency is joining forces with telecoms company O2 to develop technology that will link autonomous vehicles to telecoms satellites. The Darwin programme aims to test seamless high-speed data connections that will ensure vehicles stay connected outside of towns and cities.
Blackberry this week announced that it is to expand its partnership with LG Electronics to accelerate the deployment of connected and autonomous vehicle technology for automotive OEMs and suppliers. The agreement will see LG use Blackberry QNX software and services to build digital 'consolidated cockpits' that include infotainment systems, digital instrument clusters and telematics systems.
