The head of autonomous mobility at the World Economic Forum has highlighted two big challenges that the body believes the autonomous vehicle industry must overcome – technology and business models that can make money. In remarks made to CNBC, Michelle Avary also warned that trade tensions between the US and China could prevent firms from sharing geography-specific datasets, potentially stymieing industry growth.
The BMW Group and Daimler AG have signed an agreement to cooperate on automated driving, with a focus on jointly developing technologies for driver assistance systems, highly automated highway driving and automated parking. The companies are aiming to launch the technologies into passenger cars from 2024.
Intel has collaborated with 10 companies involved in automotive and autonomous driving technology to publish a framework for the design, development, verification and validation of safe automated passenger vehicles. In a paper, 'Safety First For Automated Driving', the companies set out 12 guiding principles for automated vehicle safety and the steps necessary to realise them.
