Consumers have a low level of confidence about the future of self-driving vehicles and are not yet comfortable with the idea of riding in a self-driving car, according to a new survey. The inaugural J.D. Power 2019 Mobility Confidence Index study also found that consumer knowledge about self-driving vehicles is limited, with two-thirds of participants saying they had little to no knowledge about autonomous vehicles.
Ford announced this week that as it works to accelerate its autonomous vehicle development, it has acquired Quantum Signal, a company that has helped to develop software for the military to remotely control robotic vehicles. The carmaker plans to use Quantum Signal's experience as it develops its Transportation as a Service platform.
Two key committees in the US Congress said this week that they will revive legislative efforts to speed the adoption of self-driving cars, reports Reuters. The House Energy and Commerce Committee and Senate Commerce Committee sent a request for input to carmakers, safety groups and others interested in the previously stalled bill – a move praised by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
